  Havdalah means separation in Hebrew. The Havdalah service takes place after darkness falls on Saturday night; it marks the separation between the end of Sabbath and the beginning of a new week. An essential part of the Havdalah service is the b'samim box, or spice box. Rabbis say we are blessed with a second soul during Shabbat, and it leaves our body with the Havdalah service.
